I know from time to time we make remarks about the intelligence of AFL footballers as against their brawn. The story, A Kick out of Reading, featured in the Entertainment section of The Age is about sixteen AFL players and destroys a sporting stereotype as they tell Louisa Penfold what ranks highest on their literary ladders.

From my favourite team Hawthorn: Stephen Gilham’s choice in books.

When I am travelling interstate for games, I can normally get stuck into a good book on the aeroplane. I go through phases of reading books, however, I always read magazines and daily papers. I tend to read autobiographies.

I found the story of Lance Armstrong’s autobiography very inspiring. Against the odds, Armstrong survived cancer, made a comeback to elite cycling and went on to win seven Tour de France titles. On my ”to read list” is Busting Vegas by Ben Mezrich. It is the story of Semyon Dukach ”the darling of Vegas”.
