Chiara Tripodi is one of Australia’s leading Make-up and Hair Designers, with over 20 years of experience in film and television working on a huge array of Australian and international projects. Chiara won an Emmy Award for her work on The Pacific in 2010, where she created authentic period looks with her signature naturalistic approach.
Her recent projects include the upcoming feature film Berlin Syndromestarring Teresa Palmer for director Cate Shortland, Simon Stone’s feature The Daughter starring Sam Neill, Geoffrey Rush, Ewan Leslie, Anna Torv, Paul Schneider, Miranda Otto and newcomer Odessa Young, and the telemovie, Mary: The Making of a Princess for director Jennifer Leacey and FremantleMedia Australia. She is also working on ABC’s The Warriors, a half-hour indigenous comedy-drama created by Tony Briggs (The Sapphires) and Robert Connolly (Paper Planes, Barracuda).
In 2015, she worked on the ABC contemporary retelling of Anna Karenina, The Beautiful Lie, and prior to that the Matchbox Pictures supernatural series Glitch, creating with director Emma Freeman characters with gorgeous and sometimes gory looks.
She set up the acclaimed Australian series Puberty Blues where she delved into period seventies styling, and worked on all seasons of the much loved Ten series Offspring, including the most recent season six.
Gallipoli, for the Nine Network, presented a unique opportunity for her to work with a huge cast, creating period styles which had to make sense in a horrific war zone, with all of its associated injuries and battle scenes. Other credits include The Hunter starring Willem Defoe and Frances O’Connor, among many others.
On every project, whether it is contemporary or period, whether she is using prosthetics and high end makeup effects or simple clean faces, she creates natural, polished and authentic hair and makeup looks for each character so that audiences are drawn straight in to their story and world.
Chiara has extensive experience with local and international talent, having worked with actors including Hugo Weaving, Willem Dafoe, Katie Holmes, Sam Neill, Guy Pearce, Naomi Watts, Claudia Karvan and Asher Keddie, and through her career has worked her way up on a range of international productions directed by such luminaries as Spike Jonze (Where the Wild Things Are), Terrence Malick (The Thin Red Line) and Guillermo del Toro (Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark).
